Community Enhancement Grants

Energy was released in Rancho Cordova during the fall of 2014 when voters approved Measure H, a half-cent sales tax to be used to enhance our community. Following more than a dozen town hall meetings, the Rancho Cordova City Council settled on $7 million in projects to elevate and accelerate community life in Rancho Cordova. In year two of this program, The Cordova Community Council, working with our partners, are proud participants in this exciting effort. Our 2016-17 Community Enhancement projects will boost the arts, enhance the quality of youth sports and more in Rancho Cordova.
Mills Station Arts and Culture Center: We are working with the art community, the City of Rancho Cordova and Regional Transit to lift up this Rancho Cordova landmark and transform it into a center of artistic enlightenment and cultural appreciation.

Art for our Kids: Now in its second year, we are working with the Crocker Art Museum, scheduling visits for the award-winning Art Ark to make visits to every public elementary school in our city, bringing the magic of art to each child. A community art night will top off each visit.

Rancho Cordova Civic Light Orchestra Enhancements: Our very own orchestra gets a lift with investment which will allow for the purchase of equipment and training opportunities for musicians through a project that is music to all our ears.

Rancho Cordova River City Concert Band Enhancements: Like our orchestra, our concert band is evolving! This investment will allow for the purchase of equipment to elevate musicianship and quality of performances.

Rehearsal Space Support: Community volunteer musicians belonging to the Rancho Cordova River City Concert Band and Rancho Cordova Civic Light Orchestra get a place to rehearse and grow through this project which secures appropriate practice space at local schools. In return, they provide us with beautiful music at free community events.

Positive Coaching Alliance 2.0: Everybody wins when the goal of youth sports is “Better Athletes, Better People.” We continue our journey in that direction with a citywide training of coaches and parents by the Positive Coaching Alliance, in partnership with the Rancho Cordova Athletic Association.

Facility Improvements for Rancho Cordova Sports Fields: Collaboration is the name of the game as we work with the Rancho Cordova Athletic Association, Folsom Cordova Unified School District and the Cordova Recreation and Park District to make improvements to youth sports facilities located on school and park district properties.

Community Christmas Tree Replacement: Our beautiful community tree is reaching the end of its life and needs to be replaced. This grant will help us get there in 2017.

Youth Sports Social Media Promotion: Working with a consultant and the Rancho Cordova Athletic Association, we will harness the power of cutting edge social media techniques to promote the grow our excellent youth sports leagues.

Public Art Kickstart: In year one, we worked on a model ordinance and toolkit for the promotion and acceleration of public art programs in the community. Once adopted, this grant will help us apply our ideas through an exciting art project to artfully transform the look of public utility boxes.

Artist-to-Go: This partnership with the Crocker Art Museum will bring working artists into fifth grade classrooms citywide to further interaction of our children with the arts.

Cordova Girls Softball Turf Maintenance Project: Girls just want to have fun! This project secures state-of-the-art turf maintenance equipment to bring the quality of playing surfaces to top notch.
